1984年4月発売。キヤノンTシリーズ第2弾として登場した35mm一眼レフカメラ。ボディ価格69,000円で、従来の機械的なダイヤル操作から電子制御を中心としたカメラへ移行する過程を象徴するモデル。

大型LCDパネルとキータッチ式ボタンを採用し、シャッター速度や撮影モードなどを液晶画面で確認しながら設定する方式を導入。シャッター優先AE、マルチプログラムAE、中央重点平均・中央部分の2方式の測光を備える。フィルムの装填、巻き上げ、巻き戻しも内蔵モーターで自動化され、単3形電池2本で作動する。

レンズマウントは従来のFDマウントを継承しながら、操作系は電子化を大きく進めた。大型LCDとボタンによる操作方法はその後の一眼レフに大きな影響を与え、1984年のヨーロピアン・カメラ・オブ・ザ・イヤーにも選ばれた。

Released in April 1984, the Canon T70 was the second model in Canon's T-series of 35mm SLR cameras. Priced at ¥69,000 for the body, it represents the transition from mechanically operated cameras toward electronically controlled photography.

A large LCD panel and push-button controls replaced many conventional mechanical dials, allowing settings such as shutter speed and exposure mode to be displayed electronically. The T70 offered shutter-priority AE, multi-program AE and selectable center-weighted or partial metering. Film loading, advance and rewind were motorized, with the camera powered by two AA batteries.

While retaining Canon's established FD lens mount, the T70 introduced an operating concept that strongly influenced later electronic SLR cameras. Its combination of automation, LCD controls and motorized film handling earned it the European Camera of the Year award in 1984.
