1988年に登場した初代ワイヤレスウォークマン「WM-505」の流れを汲むモデル。本体内蔵トランスミッターからFM電波で音声を送り、専用ワイヤレスレシーバーで受信することで、本体とヘッドホンを結ぶコードを不要にした。オートリバース、EXアモルファスヘッド、Dolby B NR、ノーマル/CrO₂・メタルテープ切替に対応。単3形電池1本で動作する。Bluetooth登場より10年以上前、「音楽プレーヤーを無線化する」という発想を実用化したウォークマンの一台。

A model descended from Sony’s first Wireless Walkman, the WM-505 introduced in 1988. An FM transmitter built into the player sent audio to a dedicated wireless receiver, eliminating the cable between the Walkman and the listener. Features included auto reverse, an EX amorphous head, Dolby B NR, Normal/CrO₂ and Metal tape support, and operation from a single AA battery. More than a decade before Bluetooth became commonplace, the WM-507 represented Sony’s early attempt to make personal audio truly wireless.
