1987/Salvador/Japanese Theatrical Program/Photojournalism/Nikon FE/Canon F-1/35mm SLR Cameras

A Japanese theatrical program for Oliver Stone's 1986 film Salvador, released in Japan on October 17, 1987. Based on the experiences of journalist Richard Boyle, the film depicts journalists and press photographers working during the Salvadoran Civil War.

35mm film SLR cameras play a prominent role throughout the film, including Nikon FE-series and Canon F-1 cameras. The program contains numerous stills showing these cameras in use, including a clearly visible Canon F-1 and Nikon equipment combined with motor drives and telephoto lenses. These images provide a useful record of the type of photographic equipment associated with professional conflict photojournalism around 1980.

Before digital cameras and rapid electronic image transmission became standard, photographs made in conflict zones were recorded on physical 35mm film and processed before publication in newspapers and magazines. The program therefore documents not only the film itself but also the material technology of an era when photographic film was central to international news reporting.
